There’s a new chef in town..
Hidden away behind The Bird hotel you’ll find PLATE. A stylish and intimate restaurant that brings relaxed and sophisticated dining to the heart of Bath. PLATE, is the perfect pit stop for a contemporary afternoon tea, lunch or dinner with a unique blend of flavour and colour.
As well as the cosy restaurant, PLATE extends onto a chic terrace which offers stunning views of the city, overlooking Bath Abbey and recreation ground. There, you’ll also find three intimate dining domes, perfect for celebrations, family get-togethers or for a much-needed catch-up with a group of friends. PLATE is complete with a bar, providing an impressive cocktail menu and thought-provoking interior designs.
After a year of further investment into The Bird by owners Ian & Christa Taylor of Kaleidoscope, The Bird has welcomed Amy Gleadow as General Manager to help lead the team into the next phase of The Bird’s journey; with the re-launch of The Bird’s restaurant ‘PLATE’ in March at the top of the list!

Amy’s appointment comes just a few days after the recent appointment of ex-Chequers Head Chef Keiren Ballam, who will lead his brigade into a new chapter as they elevate their ‘PLATE’ restaurant to offer casual dining with a contemporary feel, guided by seasonality and inspired by fresh flavours, local suppliers and some good old fashioned nostalgia.
The all-new menu will be focused on seasonality, sustainability, and locality. Three seemingly simple focuses, but when well harnessed, can create very simple yet incredible dishes. As the name suggests, the restaurant is decorated with an array of vibrant and colourful plates including an old rowing boat suspended from the ceiling. PLATE brings relaxed, sophisticated all-day dining to life from modern British cuisine to café-style classics and fantastic vegan and vegetarian dishes, you’ll find something for everyone to love.
PLATE Restaurant & Terrace will be re-launching on the 5th of March 2023.
