The Architect encompasses part of the ground floor and basement of The Empire Hotel in Bath. This beautiful Grade 2 listed building, famed for it’s extraordinary roofline depicting three different classes of people; a cottage, a manor house and a castle was designed by the Bath City Architect Major Charles Edward Davis in 1901.

It is situated on Orange Grove, overlooking Pulteney Bridge and the Abbey. A beautiful spot to watch the world go by on sunny days or, for more ‘British weather days’ there is a glass covered Orangery with the same view.

You will find a bar stocked to the brim with wines, spirits and local ales as you enter through the grand entrance and then a large high-ceilinged room full of booths to nestle into and a mixture of sized tables for large or intimate visits. There is also a more private table seating 14 if you’d like a special occasion away from the hubbub.

Our menu designed by Head Chef Szabi and the team changes slightly each day to follow the seasons and is published to our website each morning so you can whet your appetite before you even arrive. From 9am we serve breakfast dishes from the light: Bircher muesli, candied pecans and banana; Matcha chia seed bowl, coconut yoghurt and berries to the more hearty; Warm buttermilk pancakes, crisp bacon, maple syrup and blueberries; Eggs Benedict or Royale and of course, a Full English Breakfast.

Our daily menu starts from 12 noon and is served until 9pm Sunday to Wednesday and 9.30pm on Thursdays to Saturdays. Our dishes can best be described as classic British dishes complemented by more exotic influences from other parts of the world. On Sundays you can enjoy a selection of roasts, including a vegetarian option and each day we offer a children’s menu and a Gluten Free menu approved by Coeliac UK.

Dogs (with their owners!) are welcomed into the lounge and Orangery so we are the perfect stop off on your daily dog walk and for those who are up for a challenge we have a circular 5 mile walk mapped out from and to the pub taking in the heights over Bath, so you can really build up an appetite.

We’d love to see you and once the opening dust has settled we will begin to plan some events and fun activities that our locals can get involved with.
