Escape the present, explore the past

The Roman Baths is one of the finest ancient spas in Europe. This incredible Roman site has witnessed nearly two thousand years of history, and its tales of healing, worship and relaxation are even more relevant today.

Natural thermal waters once heated a sophisticated bathing complex where Romans came to relax and socialise. To the Romans the hot springs were a sacred place where worshippers prayed to the goddess Sulis Minerva. To visitors today it is still a site of special significance.

Here you can walk on ancient pavements as you explore one of the best preserved Roman sites in northern Europe. Projections and costumed actors bring the complex to life, and free optional audioguides provide a unique insight into Roman life dating from the first to the fourth century AD.

Allow time for your visit. Be assured that through timed ticketing, thorough cleaning procedures and social distancing measures we are working to make your visit a safe and enjoyable one.

In August you can watch the sun set by flickering torchlight at the Great Bath, discover the magic of the museum at night, and indulge in a drink at our pop-up bar. Our after-hours evenings are the perfect chance to unwind and discover history in a whole new light.

The Roman Baths will be open until 8pm (last admission 7pm) on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays during August. Find out more about our Prosecco Package, or to book your experience visit
