Join Hansel and Gretel for this Grimm tale as they journey into the mysterious forest on an intrepid musical adventure.
A fun musical summer holiday ‘staycation’ project for all ages.
Iford Arts in collaboration with Celebrate Voice, are delighted to offer a free three-part online series introducing families to the magical world of fairy tale operas. This film based, activity filled project is full of storytelling, singing, music and activities.
Oliver Gooch, Artistic Director of Iford Arts says: ‘Taking the classic Brothers Grimm story and set to a ravishing orchestral score by Humperdinck, Hansel and Gretel is a wonderful way to introduce the magic of opera to children and families. Full of fantastic activities for all to enjoy, what’s not to love when gingerbread, cakes, sweets and a greedy witch all come together!’
Oliver continues, ‘This is a production created, written and performed by artists in lockdown, recreating the opera in a completely new interactive way, integrating technology we have all become accustomed to in recent times! ‘.
Two of the UKs leading opera animateurs, Rob Gildon and Lynsey Docherty (who between them have worked for Royal Opera House, Grange Opera, Garsington opera, Dorset Opera Festival, Snape Maltings) perform all the roles in this 'lockdown Zoom show' Hansel & Gretel together with pianist/ conductor, Michael Waldron.
Lynsey Docherty, Founder and Artistic Director of Celebrate Voice says: ‘It is exciting to be teaming up with Iford Arts to create a totally unique online music project and celebrate and share opera in a new and dynamic way. The extraordinary circumstances of the past few months has encouraged organisations such as ours to diversify, adapt and collaborate, to continue to support our art form and reach out to our communities. It is a privilege to work with Iford Arts and promote culture in this way.’
The project will be launched on 8 August 2020 at 11am with a premier of Episode 1 on our website ifordarts.org.uk, two further episodes will be released week commencing 10 August with all content remaining live and fully accessible until 31 October 2020.
