THE SCHOOL FOR ADVENTUROUS MINDS

Founded in 1552, King Edward’s School has held a special place in Bath for well over four and a half centuries and is now firmly established as one of the leading schools of any kind in the south-west of England.

The Pre-Prep, Junior and Senior Schools of King Edward's offer an inspiring and supportive environment for children aged 3 to 18. Some join us just for the Sixth Form; many stay for their entire school career. All pupils are encouraged to be the best they can be and all are nurtured along the pathway to leading happy, fulfilled and successful lives at school and beyond.

We caught up with the Heads of King Edward’s Pre-Prep, Junior and Senior Schools to find out more about their schools.

Jayne Gilbert, Head of King Edward’s Pre-Prep and Nursery

The irresistible learning adventures at KES begins in our Pre-Prep and Nursery, where every child is treasured and cared for in our nurturing environment.

Small class sizes provide excellent adult to pupil ratios, ensuring that learning is personalised and meets each child’s individual needs through programmes of carefully designed support and challenge. Research shows that effective, high-quality experiences in the early years have a significant and positive impact on children’s development, their progress through school and on into adult life. Our highly qualified, experienced and dedicated staff are committed to giving each child in our care the very best start. We follow the children’s interests, exploring extending and challenging each child. Our wonderful enabling environment and enriched curriculum encourage our children to be curious learners with a resilience and perseverance to solve problems. By the time pupils leave us they have a genuine love for learning and an independence to flourish at the next stage in their education.

“The watchword is learning through play – the children hardly realise they are learning.”

Our Junior School enables pupils to thrive in the moment whilst preparing them for the future.

Day to day life provides a breadth of opportunities that challenge, excite, engage and inspire through high quality specialist teaching, outstanding facilities and individualised and supportive pastoral care.  Pupils are encouraged to develop their independence and to set high standards for themselves whilst embracing innovation, creativity and curiosity.  Our Junior School is about so much more than you can record on a spreadsheet or in a prospectus; it is about an experience that sets children up as confident learners and well-rounded and compassionate young people and which leaves with wonderful memories to last a lifetime.

“Intellectual rigour is underpinned by excellent pastoral care – these kids really seem to thrive.”

Martin Boden, Headmaster, King Edward’s School

In the Senior School and Sixth Form, we both build on the KES journey so far and also welcome many new pupils into our vibrant community.

Opportunity, engagement and aspiration remain key watchwords at the heart of an exceptional all-round education that encourages pupils to follow their passions and gives them the confidence to find their voice and to make a difference.

We are both proud of the academic excellence and success for which KES is renowned and also keen to celebrate our pupils’ efforts and achievements in many different fields. We place great value on the traditional virtues of doing your best, making the most of the incredible opportunities on offer and aiming high, whilst also keeping your feet on the ground and supporting others.

We hope that our pupils will flourish on all fronts, fulfil their potential in and out of the classroom and leave the school happy, successful and ready to thrive in the world beyond King Edward’s.

“KES remains at the top of the academic pops in Bath and Beyond.”
