Recharge and reconnect with a luxurious stay at one of Cumberwell Park’s, new 5 bedroom Country Cottages

There is something serene about the peace and tranquility of a rural setting; whether it's the wide ranging views of the local countryside, the restorative power of nature, or the escapism that belies the hectic world we currently inhabit. Craig Maplesden offers his thoughts on why one of Cumberwell Country Cottages' new 5 bedroom properties are the perfect retreat for those planning to recharge and reconnect.

Set in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, on the edge of an area of outstanding natural beauty, you will find Cumberwell Country Cottages. Located on the grounds of Cumberwell Park, Wiltshire's only 45 hole golf course, the James family have been offering luxurious self-catering accommodation to guests since 2007. Initially comprising of seven cottages, converted from the farms former Tythe Barn, two new 5 bedroom properties were introduced to the portfolio in July 2020.

Once a barn for cider production, the two 5 bedroom, linked cottages, offer an immediate wow factor when coming into view. Standing detached from other buildings, and surrounded by beautifully manicured grounds, there is an instant feeling of calm and tranquility that can alter the mood of even the most stressed and weary traveller.

On closer inspection, the exterior of the cottages have been sympathetically transformed to maintain much of their original charm. Despite it's obvious change of use, nothing feels out of place, and if anything, enhances a view that has been - for the most part - unchanged for nearly a century.

With a private parking area which faces the two properties, you are struck by the simplicity of their design. Both cottages are mirror images of each other and have an interconnecting door, for when larger families want to 'meet again' after further restrictions are eased.

On entry, you are welcomed by a large reception area, tiled throughout, that offers access to a downstairs toilet, stairs leading to the second floor, the main living, kitchen and dining area - plus a beautiful double bedroom, with en-suite - perfect for any members of the family that may need additional accessibility requirements.

As you enter the main living area, this large, open-plan room is separated into three discernible areas. The living space consists of 2 large, and very comfortable, sofas - perfect for a night in front of the television or built-in fireplace, 2 modern single seats and access to an outside patio with its own garden furniture. The wall-mounted Smart Television is ideal for an evenings entertainment or just to keep the kids occupied for a while.

The fully equipped, modern kitchen has everything you could wish for; including NEFF hob and oven with ceiling extractor. With four bar stools neatly tucked under the island, the whole family can chat about the day whilst a meal is being prepared.

Opposite the kitchen is a large 10 seater dining room table that allows everyone the chance to pull up a seat and enjoy a big family meal together - nothing has been left to chance. On sunnier evenings, a BBQ is also available on request.

The cottages are perfectly located for those wanting to investigate, or reconnect, with the local Wiltshire and Bath area. Just a short drive from Bradford-on-Avon, this historical woollen town was an important religious centre in Saxon times and St Laurence’s Church is one of the most complete and important Saxon buildings still in existence.

For families wanting a day out; Bristol Zoo is just 40 minutes in the car and provides a fun packed day for all the family. Wookey Hole caves, formed in the limestone hills in the village of Wookey Hole, is also a 40 minute drive away, with Longleat and its land of adventure - where lions roam. Tigers stalk. And monkeys swing - even closer.

If you prefer a more sedate day of history, hospitality and a bit of retail therapy, then the World Heritage City of Bath is only 5 miles away. The city's compact, visitor-friendly centre is overflowing with places to eat and drink, plus some of the finest independent shops in Britain, making it the ideal city break. Immerse yourself in Bath’s remarkable collection of museums and galleries, and enjoy year-round festivals, theatre, music and sports.
