Bath: get ready to party!
McFly, Billy Ocean and Scouting for Girls among line-up for The Bath Festival Finale Weekend in August
Bath is gearing up for a fabulous two-day music festival featuring chart-toppers McFly, British soul star Billy Ocean and many more – all taking place in the heart of the city.
Over the weekend of Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August The Bath Festival Finale Weekend will take over the green space of the Bath Rec to welcome families and music lovers of all ages. The festival, which was originally due to take place in May 2020, is being staged by Bath Festivals in partnership with music promoters Orchard Live. These are the teams which in recent years brought legends Robert Plant and Van Morrison to Bath Rec, along with singers including Paloma Faith, Mabel and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
This year, returning stronger than ever after the success in 2020 of their first studio album in ten years, Young Dumb Thrills, McFly will top the bill on the Saturday night, bringing their own brand of festival Happiness to Bath. Also on the Main Stage on the Saturday will be Scouting for Girls, who have built their reputation as a party band.
Before them British singer-songwriter Gabrielle will bring her beautiful distinctive voice to the party with hits such as Dreams, Rise and Out of Reach. Joining the Saturday line-up are Irish singer-songwriter Orla Gartland, British/American rising star George Pelham and London indie four-piece Novacub.
On both days there will also be music and entertainment on the smaller City Stage.
On the Sunday UB40, featuring Ali Campbell and Astro, top the bill. Expect to hear some favourite numbers, such as Red, Red Wine, One in Ten and Kingston Town. Before them we’ll welcome British soul singer Billy Ocean who’s bound to have the crowd singing along to some of his many hits. We bet you’ll remember all the words to Red Light Spells Danger, Caribbean Queen or When The Going Gets Tough!
West country folk musician Seth Lakeman, who last played the Finale Weekend in 2018, will bring his band to the Main Stage for a high energy set. New York’s trio Fun Lovin’ Criminals, featuring Bath-based frontman Huey Morgan, will bring their unique style and sense of fun to Bath Rec.
Adding to the party atmosphere on the Sunday will be BLOCO B samba troupe from Bristol. The musicians and dancers take part in St Paul Carnival in Bristol, Notting Hill Carnival and the Rio Carnival itself. Honouring the musical traditions of this amazing music BLOCO B challenge you not to move and be moved.
Sunday will also include a set from English singer-songwriter and actress Twinnie, solo artists Hannah Grace and Casey Lowry, Wiltshire based indie trio Port Erin and grunge influenced Life in Mono fronted by Sarah Clayton.
There’s plenty of fun and entertainment to be had away from the Main Stage. There’s a dedicated Kids Zone to keep youngsters happy and a whole host of food and drink stalls. You’ll never be far from a decent cup of coffee, or a beer from the professionally run bars. This year a new seating area will allow somewhere for people to sit while they’re eating and you can bet that, this being Bath, you’ll bump into old friends and enjoy a chat.
For many of the audience and the artists this will be their first live music event for more than a year and we can’t wait to soak up that unique atmosphere!
The Finale Weekend is supported by sponsors Bath Ales, Novia, Bath BID and Agriframes.
