3 Cafe Kitchen provides young people with special needs with the training and work experience in a real working environment. We are an award winning café serving breakfast, lunch, cakes and hot and cold drinks. There is a bookable meeting room and take away and outside catering is on offer. We are happy to offer the space for pop up events and can provide cakes and tray bakes for your special event at home or work.
Pop in and grab a scone and cuppa for under £3.50 and a breakfast deal for £2.50 with pastry and coffee, or even our pancake stacks and sarnies made to order or ready prepped in our chiller. We have a beautiful garden and tables are available to book or for walk in.
The cafe provides over 30 work placements each year, alongside food hygiene and catering qualifications for students at the school. We aim to use this as a stepping stone for students to go on to work placements in the community.
We want to provide students with meaningful training and work experience in order to move on to further training and work. The project is working to increase the young peoples’ life and work skills, confidence, experience and training.
1 in 5 young people with learning difficulties are unemployed according to recent Mencap Research. With the right support and training we work to help our students overcome the barrios to employment. It can be challenging to find work placements for pupils with special needs.
Work places are often concerned that pupils will need extra support and supervision. In a market where personnel are often over stretched and where health and safety considerations are at the fore, this can sometimes make employers question the viability of work experience. We provide the support and staffing to ensure placements go as well as possible, knowing all our students have worked in the café before going out into the community.
With the support and skills of a jobs coach to develop links with employers we hope to break down these barriers and create better opportunities for these pupils in the future.
