Summer seems to have nally arrived and Bath is buzzing with the sound of live music. There seems to be a lot of music events on offer but for a music concert with a difference, why not try a unique trip to one of Bath Racecourse’s music events?

We spoke to Executive Director Jo Hall to find out what can you expect at one of the racecourse’s live music nights.

How did the racecourse start putting on music events?

“We’ve been staging live music after racing for more than 15 years. Despite being the second biggest spectator sport in the UK, horseracing has always been keen to attract new audiences. Staging live music is a great way of getting new people to experience the sport who have never been.”

What can people expect at one of Bath Racecourse’s music concerts?

“Well, before the music there’s the racing for everyone to enjoy! A large portion of people that visit us on music nights are new to watching live horseracing. They might have watched the Grand National but watching live racing is a whole different experience. There’s such a great atmosphere; it’s a real buzz hearing the crowd cheering home their horses.

“After the racing has nished, the live musicstarts. We have an open-air stage past one of the Grandstands so there’s a festival-vibe. Everyone is up dancing and singing along. The live music normally lasts between one to two hours and there’s plenty of bars and food outlets for people to stay refreshed.

What acts are playing this year at the racecourse?

“As we’re part of a bigger racecourse Group, we’ve been able to book some fantastic headline acts in recent years. Previously, we’ve had the likes of UB40, James Blunt and Tom Grennan performing and this year we’re really excited to have 80s chart- toppers, The Human League, here on Saturday 14 September.

“Somerset band The Wurzels have been aregular xture here for more than 10 years, performing at our hugely popular Super Cider Saturday in August. They are a great band that our customers absolutely love. The combination of racing, cider and The Wurzels is a winning combination in the West Country!

“We also regularly have different tribute bands performing for various themed- racenights, which are great as they play loads of songs that people really know and love. I’m particularly looking forward to our new Festival of Legends event on Friday 2 August when we have three acts performing – Queen, David Bowie and George Michael.

Any top tips for people visiting who’ve never been?

Come early enough to enjoy the racing rstand book your tickets in advance as you save a bit more money.
