Grammy award-winners Clean Bandit take to the stage as part of this year’s Bath Festival Finale Weekend (Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June).

We speak to the band about their new album ’What Is Love?’ and performing at The Rec.

Clean Bandit have consistently pushed the boundaries of modern pop with their diverse blend of electronic, dancehall, classical, R&B and pop.

Their breakthrough success came in 2014 with the single ‘Rather Be’, feat. Jess Glynne, a Grammy award-winning worldwide hit that has now surpassed 10 million global sales.

In 2016, they released their 10 million-selling single ‘Rockabye’ feat. Sean Paul and AnneMarie. Shooting to #1 in over 40 countries and having spent nine weeks at the top of the charts in the UK, the track became the longestrunning UK #1 in 22 years surpassing Wet Wet Wet’s ‘Love Is All Around’.

The band consisting of members Grace Chatto, and brothers Jack and Luke Patterson recently received two Brit Award nominations for their 2018 smash ‘Solo’ feat. Demi Lovato, which became their fourth UK number 1. The band have now notched up 9 UK top fi ve singles, more than Bruno Mars or Adele.

Four years since their debut album, the group released their second studio album ‘What Is Love?’, which features a plethora of prominent artists like Charlie XCX, Ellie Goulding, Luis Fonsi and the aforementioned hits from Sean Paul and Demi Lovato.

“The album looks at many different kinds and stages of love”, says cellist Grace Chatto. “We’ve been making it over three years, during which time we’ve all experienced love in our lives in different ways and, some of us, heartbreak too”.

“Somehow this is all expressed in the music”, she adds. “Brotherly love; family love; romantic love; crazy all-consuming love; the pain of love turning into something different or dishonest; and, of course, in ‘Rockabye’, unconditional motherly love”.

Grace concludes “It explores the sacrifi ces we all go through for love and for each other, even when it is diffi cult. It’s been such an honour to write and record with all of the amazing singers and musicians involved in the record”.

As 2018 closed, 2019 started with the band being nominated for British Single of the Year and British Video of the Year at the Brits 2019 and announcing numerous live shows that take in the Seoul Jazz Festival 2019 in South Korea and the Paaspop Festival in Schijndel, Netherlands before coming to Bath for this year’s Bath Fesrtival Finale Weekend (Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June 2019).

On performing at this years Bath Festival, the band commented: “This summer, we are super excited to be playing new songs as well our fans’ favourites from our last album What is Love? We’ve had a lot of fun rehearsing the new show and can’t wait to share it with everyone at our headline festival show in Bath.”
