Festive Family Fun

Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and even more so for children. See the magic of Christmas through their eyes and get involved in the fantastic line-up of family-friendly events in Bath.

Little ones can meet Father Christmas at Santa’s Grotto in Milsom Place, take a whirl on the enchanting Victorian carousel on Stall Street and follow the Christmas Tree Carol Trail to see if they can spot all ten uniquely-decorated trees and identify the musical theme at each one.

Head to the theatre for a festive family outing. Gather the little ones for a magical performance of Snow Mouse at The Egg Theatre, or revel in a lively performance of this year’s pantomime at Theatre Royal Bath. Packed with singing, dancing and plenty of audience participation, Peter Pan will delight audiences of all ages.

Acclaimed children’s writer Michael Morpurgo will be coming to the city to celebrate his re-telling of the much-loved story by Raymond Briggs, The Snowman, as part of Bath Children’s Literature Festival. There will be plenty of seasonal fun for the whole family, and The Snowman himself might even make an appearance!

On each Saturday of Bath Christmas Market, Queen Square will host a Festive Family Artisan Market, sponsored by Mogers Drewett. Bring the whole family along to take part in the exciting activities. From the Kids’ Café and festive storytelling to Christmas arts and crafts workshops and face painting, there is plenty to keep children entertained. And with glass-blowing demonstrations from Bath Aqua Glass, tasty street food and local makers from the monthly Bath Artisan Market, there’s lots for adults too.

Recycled Christmas

Bath is going green this Christmas. The cheerful decorations adorning Abbeygate Street and Abbey Street during Bath Christmas Market are all made using recycled plastic bags and bottles. This year, Bath Christmas Market have teamed up with Christine Leech, Creative Director of Marie Claire Runway Magazine, to transform discarded single use plastics into creative Christmas decorations.

Local pupils of Widcombe Junior School in Bath have made a wonderful contribution by making Christmas pompoms made from plastic shopping bags that are no longer usable and snowfl akes from old plastic bottles to create beautiful chandeliers. Christmas can be wasteful time of year so what better way to fi nd another use for rubbish than by turning it into art!

For more sustainable Christmas decorations, head to Old Bond Street where you can use pedal-power to light up a shining interactive display.

Bath Christmas Market will be open from Thursday 22nd November – Sunday 9th December 2018 Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 10am–7pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays: 10am–8:30pm Sundays: 10am–6pm
