The National Theatre, creators of War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, bring their epic and visually daring production of William Shakespeare’s most intense tragedy MACBETH to the Theatre Royal Bath from Tuesday 27th November to Saturday 8th December following a sold out run in London.

The ruined aftermath of a bloody civil war. Violence and chaos ravage the landscape as survivors struggle to build new lives and protect the ones they love. Ruthlessly fighting to survive, the Macbeths are thrust towards the crown by forces of elemental darkness.

Emerging victorious from a bloody-fight, the battle-hardened Macbeth encounters three haunting figures on a heath who hail him as the future King of Scotland. Hearing this prophecy, Macbeth’s ambition consumes him and, spurred on by his wife, he sets himself and his country on a dark and murderous path.

Shakespeare’s infamous exploration of betrayal, corruption and abuse of power is brought to bold life in this modern retelling directed by National Theatre Artistic Director Rufus Norris (Cabaret, London Road) with design by Tony and Olivier Award-winning designer Rae Smith (War Horse, This House).

This exhilarating new production combines thrilling staging and striking set design in a theatrical event that propels Shakespeare’s classic title into a post-apocalyptic world of anarchy and uncertainty.
